Coe - Toraro Base > IFC Toraro

The Control Area (IFC - Integrated Fire Control), was located on the summit of Mount Toraro (Province of Vicenza), 1897 meters above sea level. In the distance it was visible only the high antenna of communications. The location was ideal, in direct visual contact with the underlying Launch area of Passo Coe - Zonta, that is as the crow flies 3240 m. To reach the top of the hill on the southeast flank of the mount was built a road. The high altitude made it rather difficult life to the garrison, especially in winter, when snow often exceeded three meters thick.

It was composed of a building for staff accommodation, a thermal power plant, a reservoir for collecting and conveying rainwater, a fuel depot, a deposit for radioactive material, an underground connection that put in direct communication with the top of the mount, a radar antenna Lopar, a radar antenna TTR, a radar antenna TRR and a radar antenna MTR.
After 1977 installations were abandoned and, as the structures of the Launch Area, subject to damage and vandalism. In the late eighties all installations were demolished and today of what was once the Control Area of Mount Toraro not remain anything.
